Amanda Coolidge

Amanda Coolidge is the Senior Manager of Open Education at BCcampus. She leads the BC Open Textbook Project as well as the Open Education initiatives in the province of British Columbia, Canada. The BCcampus Open Education team produces Open Educational Resources (OER) – textbooks, toolkits, and other learning materials – in collaboration with the B.C. post-secondary system.  Amanda has a background in Educational Technology and Instructional Design. Prior to working in the British Columbia Post-Secondary Sector, Amanda was the Senior Educational Technologist on the TESSA (Teacher Education in Sub Saharan Africa) project, based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Angela DeBarger

Angela Haydel DeBarger is a Program Officer in Education at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Her portfolio addresses the intersection of the deeper learning and open educational resources strategies, with the aim of creating inclusive, purposeful and coherent learning experiences for students and teachers. Previously, Angela served as senior program officer for Lucas Education Research at the George Lucas Educational Foundation, where she led elementary and middle school project-based learning initiatives. From 2002 to 2014, she worked as an education researcher at SRI International. She is a native Californian and enjoys spending time with her two boys.

Norman Bier

Norman Bier Norman Bier is Director of the Open Learning Initiative (OLI) and the Executive Director of the Simon Initiative at Carnegie Mellon University. Norman has spent his career at the intersection of learning and technology, working to expand access to and improve the quality of education. Prior to joining OLI, he was Director of Training and Development at iCarnegie Inc., a CMU subsidiary chartered to deliver software development education through international partner institutions. He has taught computer science courses as an adjunct faculty member at the Community College of Allegheny County, philosophy courses at CMU, and served as a founding committee member of the Cook Honors College at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Future of Learning Materials Panel

This keynote panel, comprised of representatives from non-profit and for-profit publishers of learning materials, will discuss the future of learning materials in a world of open educational resources (OER).
